As Chair of the Westmorland Orchestra I am delighted that you have shown an interest in our orchestra and warmly welcome you to our site, whether your interest is as potential concert-goer, player or patron!  I love hearing the chat before a rehearsal at Castle Street Community Centre, the sound of an oboe’s concert ‘A’ and the hush that falls as Richard Howarth raises his baton – and above all the glorious feeling when the music happens!

Our Concerts

We perform three concerts a year, in December, March and June. Usually these are at Kendal Leisure Centre but occasionally we go elsewhere. Tickets are available through TicketSource tickets for young people are free and other discounts are often available.  Other occasional concerts are given, often by smaller groups of our musicians.

We always welcome new players! Rehearsals are at Castle Street Community Centre in Kendal, LA9 7AD, and run from September through to the concert in May.
Our origins are in adult education so our rehearsals more or less follow terms: every Wednesday evening from 7.15 to 9.30 pm with the exception of school half-term, 4 weeks over Christmas and 2 weeks over the Easter break. The annual membership fee is currently £150, with some concessions available. If you are interested in joining the orchestra then please contact the secretary and arrange to come to a rehearsal!

Westmorland Orchestra is a charity, run to cover costs whilst providing opportunities for playing, performing and listening to music. We are very lucky to have the support of a number of Patrons who, for a small donation (in addition to buying tickets for each of a season’s concerts) have early access to tickets. More Information.

I hope you find every thing you are looking for on this site or on our social media pages; please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us if you have any questions, comments or suggestions.

We look forward to meeting you soon!
