Saturday 28 Sept 2019 – 09:30 to 16:30
Victoria Hall Grange-over-Sands LA11 6DP.
Dvorak – Symphony 9 From New World
“One of the best loved, mostly performed symphonies by any composer, the New World Symphony is wonderful to listen to and amazing to play!
Dvorak accepted the commission from the New York Philharmonic Orchestra whilst Director of the National Conservatory of Music of America and proceeded to write a piece based on the spirit of native American music rather than specific examples. The result is a feast of great tunes wrapped in his customary fresh sound world. I love it, and so will you, especially from the inside.
So come and have a jolly good play with Westmorland Orchestra on 28 September. Copious amounts of tea and cake will sustain you.” – Richard Howarth – Music Director

For our Open Day this year we are returning to Grange! Parking is across the road on the Main Street pay and display car park run by SLDC. There is an alternative car park at Berners Close (LA11 7DQ), but it is a 10 minute walk back to the Hall. You can stop outside Victoria Hall to drop off large instruments.
Tea and coffee will be provided at the breaks and at lunchtime but you will need to bring a packed lunch or use the many local cafes. You will need a music stand (please put your name on it) and you may find a stand light useful. You are welcome to invite friends/relatives along for the play through at the end of the day. The day is free to those under 18 but we ask for a donation from everyone else.
We welcome all players, but to get the most out of the day, we usually look for players of Grade V. If you have any questions relating to the music, please contact our conductor Richard Howarth on 01663 733650 or by email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
