This concert features many of the pieces from our cancelled programme from May 2020.
As well as perennial favourite, Dvorak’s Symphony No. 9 “From The New World” Westmorland Orchestra is delighted to be premiering a work by Fredrik Holm, “Equilibrium” composed in memory of Jonty Somervell, a lifelong member of the orchestra.
We will also be joined by Ellena Newton, trombonist, for Rimsky Korsakov’s trombone concerto and Berlioz’ Roman Carnival is also on the programme.
Ellena Newton is already, making a name for herself as one of the country’s leading trombone players. She first came to public attention when she was a finalist in the brass section of the BBC’s Young Musician of the Year in 2014. \in 2017, while studying at Chetham’s School of Music she was a finalist in the BBC Radio 2 Young Brass Awards.
She is currently solo trombone with the renowned Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band and is continuing her studies at the Royal Northern College of Music under the tuition of Roger Cutts.
